All the types of refrigerators and freezers have the door gasket which seals the cold air within the insulated box. This helps in preventing the heat escape and spoilage of food stored in the refrigerator. Although most of the refrigerator manufacturers use high quality magnet laden PVC seals for fridge doors still the seals are subjected to damage when they get old. They become brittle and warp more often. This leads to leakage of the cold air and affects the cooling in refrigerator. If you notice the cold air leak from the doors of your refrigerator then it is the time that you should get the fridge seal replaced.
Simple steps to remove the fridge door gasket
Here are the simple steps which are followed by the repairers to replace the fridge door gasket:
- Step 1: Fridge door gasket is available in kinked shape so it is important that you should first dip it in hot water for about 30 minutes. It helps in removing the kinks from the gasket and make installations more comfortable. The treated gasket should be laid on the table and stretched into the shape of the refrigerator door.
- Step 2: Now, turn off your refrigerator and lift up the edges of the gasket attached on the door. Unscrew it to remove the gasket from the door. You can pull it if the gasket doesn’t come out on its own.
- Step 3: Carefully attach the gasket by stretching it around the panel so that it can fit perfectly. Screw up the gasket and prevent it from kinking.
After installation, test the door seal if it is working properly or not.
